ABOUT

Junya – a proud Ghanaian – born Junior Emmanuel Koney is a true multi-hyphenate. A creative soul, child of God, model and artist but most of all a devoted drummer. His musical talent has granted him the privilege to travel the globe and perform the world over at renowned stages including Hollands most prestigious festival, Lowlands.

As a young boy of just two years old, Junya’s love for music was a precious gift from his beloved mother.
She was a musician herself, and she taught him to play the drums and guitar, exposing him to the soulful sounds of gospel music. In the kitchen of his childhood home, he would pound on pots and pans, creating a symphony of sounds as his mother sang church songs alongside him. Though she untimely passed away in 2011, her legacy lives on in the music he creates and she continues to inspire him to reach new heights and push the boundaries of his musical journey.

Junya’s career as a drummer took flight in 2018. When he decided to take a chance on himself and embarked on a worldwide tour starting in Europe, playing shows in South Korea, South-Africa and even performing in the country of his roots, Ghana, together with famed Dutch artist Akwasi.

Artistically, Junya is continuously evolving, exploring new sonic paths alongside his career as a model for brands like Daily Paper, Filling Pieces and TheNewOriginals. Being a true peoples person, when he isn’t traveling or practicing in the studio, he’s always giving his time to his dearest community. Providing musical masterclasses for youths in his neighbourhood as well as helping out in church where his father is a priest. Humble and caring as he can be, he is devoted to carrying forth the legacy of his late mother thru inspiring the next generation.

Having worked on several big productions, including Rimon’s Digital Tears EP, Junya is now in the process of producing his own music as an independent artist.
